In lack of a Doctor Who "I ♥ New New New New New New New New New New New New New New New New York"-tee...
"It might just be us, but when we hear "New New York," we think immediately of Futurama. But somehow the idea of a "new" New York seems familiar. Turns out New New York has a long and storied dystopian history, which is right up T-shirt Girl's alley. Most recently, Margaret Atwood's post-apocalyptic Oryx and Crake had a New New York. In the 80s, New New York was the name of the largest orbital habitat around Earth in Joe Haldeman's Worlds trilogy. Jump back to the 1960s, and you'll find it in a novel we're betting most all of you have read, Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? There it's a settlement on Mars, mentioned in passing on a government-sponsored television program and later by Pris as an explanation of how she knows Roy Baty. And then back to the beginning with Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles. This first reference to the city might have the best quote, which we're going to set apart using the blockquote tag, just so nobody misses it:
He burned what was left of New New York that morning at three."
